• Postoperatoria

    Entre el 2 y el 57% de los pacientes sometidos a cirugía cardiaca desarrollan delirium, siendo la  cirugía de bypass aorto-coronario la que más riesgo conlleva. Son factores predisponentes para desarrollarlo la edad avanzada, el sexo masculino y la existencia de enfermedades previas del SNC como la demencia . Entre los factores que pueden precipitarlo hay que tener en cuenta el tiempo que han estado conectados a la máquina de bypass cardiopumonar, la existencia hipotensión durante la cirugía, embolias, el bajo gasto cardiaco postoperatorio, la deprivación sensorial cuando están unidades de cuidados intensivos, los fármacos que se administran para el dolor postoperatorio o para la agitación, los anestésicos y las infecciones.
    Además del riesgo de delirium que conllevan  las fracturas en sí, la cirugía ortopédica también favorece su desarrollo. De los pacientes que ingresan con fractura de cadera, entre el 13 y el 44% presentan cuadros de delirio.
