• Traumática

    El daño cerebral traumático es una causa frecuente de hospitalización y la mayoría de los supervivientes presentan alteraciones comportamentales en el período agudo inmediatamente posterior al daño. En traumatismos severos, el delirium es consecuencia de lesiones focales como contusiones, hematomas subdurales y hemorragias intraparenquimatosas, sin embargo en traumatismos leves y moderados el cuadro aparece meses o años después de producirse el trauma debido a que se produce una alteración difusa en las sinapsis de las regiones frontotemporales.
    Por último hacer mención a los cuadros de estrés posttraumático. El delirium se produce tras un problema médico grave o una situación de riesgo en los que corre peligro la integridad física y la vida del individuo. Esto se ha visto en casos de transplantados, los días previos y posteriores a la intervención; y en grandes quemados.
